Easter is that time of year when Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter 2018 is here and as usual, food prices are slightly up.
A bag of 50kg Rice is now between N 15,000 – N 17,500. the price depends on the brand. the price of Pal Oil and Vegetable Oil has gone up.
Personally I don’t think prices should increase because there is not fuel shortage/crisis. PMS is readily available in all filling stations. There are no fuel queues and everybody seems to be happy. However events in the middle belt states may be responsible for the slight increase in food prices.
For instance, Benue state is often regarded as the food basket of Nigeria. Recent events in that state have resulted in a huge reduction in the supply of YAMS, CASSAVA and Assorted Fruits to the nation’s food crisis. The herdsmen crisis is already taking its toll on food supply. Many villages have been destroyed along with the local food stores.
The government must act now before the food security is compromised. I wish you all a Happy Easter celebrations.
