Governor Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi state said that the state government would guarantee N4 billion as loan to farmers as part of new measures to increase agricultural production.
The governor stated this when he received a delegation of the state chapter of the Youth in Agriculture Organisation in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. He confirmed to the delegation that 360 tractors would be provided at subsidized rate to farmers.
The governor also promised that 2,000 work bulls and ploughs including 2,000 power tillers would be made available to farmers. The state chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) will be an integral part of the programme to enhance agricultural production.
In view of the huge potential of the agriculture sector, the governor urged the youth in the state to embrace farming as a means of livelihood, considering the potential in dry and wet season farming. To achieve this, a large consignment of water pumping machines would be distributed to farmers to boost dry season farming in Kebbi state
The state chairperson of the organisation, Hajiya Rabi Zuru, commended the efforts of the state government in the development of agricultural production and called for timely distribution of support to farmers.
This is indeed a very welcome development as Kebbi state has huge potential for production of assorted grains- maize, soya beans, sorghum, millet and vegetables and onions, just to mention a few.
